Life in a Military Community

In Killeen, almost everyone is connected to Fort Cavazos, the post formerly known as Fort Hood. That closeness is a strength, and it can also make it harder to ask for help. You may worry about who will find out, or feel that everyone around you is handling it better.

Telehealth gives you a private place to talk. You can join from home, without sitting in a waiting room where you might run into someone you know.

Families on and around post carry their own weight: repeated moves, long trainings, deployments and the quiet worry of waiting for a call. Partners and older children sometimes need a place to talk about that as much as the service member does. Their stress is real even when nobody in uniform is talking about it.

Care Focused on Combat-Related PTSD

Tara Franklin, LPC, has 14 years of experience and works with veterans, including combat-related PTSD. Her approach is integrative, and she works at a pace that feels right for you. She also offers affirming care for LGBTQIA+ clients.

  • Nightmares, flashbacks and staying on high alert
  • Anger, irritability and pulling away from people
  • Mood and memory changes after a head injury
  • Adjusting to life after service

Private Pay With Tara

Tara sees private-pay clients only and does not bill insurance. Some service members and veterans prefer this because nothing is submitted to an insurance company. Her rate is $100 for 45 minutes or $125 for 60 minutes, so you know the cost before you commit to anything.

If you need a clinician who accepts insurance, other members of our team do, and we will tell you which option fits.

Texas Licensed, Fully Online

Our practice is in the Houston area, and our clinicians are licensed in Texas. You need to be physically in Texas during your session, whether that is at home, in your truck or anywhere private. Evening and weekend appointments are available, which helps around duty schedules and shift work.

Common Questions

Will my command know I am in therapy?
We do not share anything with your command without your written permission, except where the law requires it. Your clinician will explain those limits at your first session.
Can my spouse get support too?
Yes. Spouses can start individually, and Melisa Smith, LPC, works with couples and families feeling the strain of military life.
What if I move away from Texas with a new assignment?
Sessions can only continue while you are in Texas. If you get orders, tell your clinician and they will help you plan for care after the move.

Ready to Begin?

When you are ready, call, text or email the office. A short conversation is enough to get started, and you can ask any question about privacy, private pay or scheduling before you decide anything.
