Life After a Traumatic Brain Injury
Emotional Health After a Brain Injury
After a brain injury, the scans can look fine while life does not. Tara Franklin, LPC, helps adults with the emotional side of TBI: irritability, low mood, frustration and strain at home.

The Changes People Do Not Always See
A traumatic brain injury from a fall, a crash, sports or military service can leave changes that are hard to explain to others. You may look the same, but you do not feel the same.
- A shorter fuse and anger that surprises you
- Low mood, worry or feeling flat
- Frustration with memory or focus
- Partners and kids who say you seem different
- Grief for the person you were before
Where Therapy Fits
Therapy does not replace care from your medical team. It works alongside it. Tara focuses on the emotional and relational side of recovery: how you feel about the changes, how you cope with frustration, and how you and the people around you adjust.
Because she also specializes in PTSD, Tara understands how a brain injury and trauma can overlap, especially when the injury happened during something frightening.
Family members often feel the changes too. A spouse may feel like they are living with a different person, and kids may not understand why a parent gets overwhelmed more easily now. Tara can help you find words to explain what is happening and ways to handle hard moments together.
How Sessions Are Shaped for You
Tara has 14 years of experience and an integrative approach. Sessions can be practical, with clear steps you can use between appointments. She keeps the pace manageable and checks in about what is working, so you are not left feeling overloaded.
Sessions are by secure video, which saves the drive and the waiting room. You need to be located in Texas during each session, and evenings and weekends are available.
Some clients like to keep a short list of what came up during the week, since memory changes can make it harder to recall things in the moment. Tara can help you set up simple tools like this so sessions stay useful.
Tara Franklin sees private-pay clients only. She does not bill insurance, so no claim goes to a health plan for her sessions. Her rate is $100 for 45 minutes or $125 for 60 minutes. Call or email the office to ask about openings.

Common Questions
- Do I need a referral from my doctor?
- No referral is needed to contact us. With your written permission, Tara can coordinate with your medical providers if that would help.
- Can my partner join a session?
- If it would help, talk with Tara about including your partner. Brain injury often affects the whole household.
- Is online therapy hard after a brain injury?
- Many clients find video easier because there is no travel. Tara can keep sessions focused and adjust if screens tire you out.
