Affirming Care for LGBTQIA+ Adults

LGBTQIA+ Affirming Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy should not start with defending who you are. Tara Franklin, LPC, offers affirming care for LGBTQIA+ clients working through PTSD and painful experiences, by secure video anywhere in Texas.

You Should Not Have to Educate Your Therapist

Many LGBTQIA+ clients have sat across from a counselor and spent half the session explaining their identity, their relationships or their pronouns. That is exhausting, and it gets in the way of the reason you came.

With Tara, your identity is not the problem to be solved. It is part of the whole person she is working with.

That also means you can bring your whole life into sessions: a partner, a coming out story, a family that is still adjusting, or a faith community you left or still belong to. None of it needs to be edited out to make the therapist comfortable.

Trauma Tara Can Help With

Clients come to Tara with experiences like these:

  • Rejection or harm from family, church or community
  • Harassment, threats or violence
  • Painful relationships or past abuse
  • Military service and combat stress
  • Long-term stress from hiding parts of yourself

An Approach That Fits You

Tara has 14 years of experience and an integrative style. She may use person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, exposure-based or solution-focused methods, depending on what you need and what feels manageable.

She works at a pace that feels right to you. You can start with what is hurting most now and decide later how far back to go.

If a technique does not feel right, you can say so. Tara adjusts the plan as you go, and checking in about what is and is not helping is a normal part of the work.

Sessions From a Place You Feel Safe

All sessions are by secure video, so you can join from wherever you feel most at ease, as long as you are located in Texas. Evening and weekend appointments are available.

Use the name and pronouns that fit you, and tell the office when you reach out so they are used from the very first call.

Tara Franklin sees private-pay clients only. She does not bill insurance, so no claim goes to a health plan for her sessions. Her rate is $100 for 45 minutes or $125 for 60 minutes. Call or email the office to ask about openings.

Common Questions

Do I need a trauma diagnosis to see Tara?
No. If something painful still affects your daily life, that is reason enough to reach out.
Can I talk about my partner or chosen family in sessions?
Yes. The people who matter to you are part of your life, and they are welcome in the conversation.
Why does Tara only see private-pay clients?
Tara does not bill insurance. Some clients prefer that, since no claim goes to a health plan. Her rate is $100 for 45 minutes or $125 for 60 minutes, and the office can explain superbill options.
