Come As You Are
LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy in Texas
You should not have to educate your therapist about your identity before you can get help. Affirming care means who you are is respected from the first conversation.

The Weight You Might Be Carrying
LGBTQ+ adults in Texas often carry stress that others never see: family members who will not accept them, faith communities that pushed them out, or the constant work of deciding who is safe to tell. Some also carry trauma from violence, rejection or years of hiding.
Being part of the LGBTQ+ community is not what needs fixing. What may need care is the anxiety, depression or trauma that comes from how others have treated you.
Many people put off therapy because a past counselor, doctor or pastor made them feel judged. If that happened to you, it is fair to be cautious. You can ask us direct questions before you start and decide for yourself whether we feel right.
What Affirming Care Looks Like Here
We use your name and pronouns. We do not treat your identity as a symptom. We will not try to change who you love or who you are. And if you are a person of color, we understand that more than one part of your identity may shape what you face.
- Coming out, or deciding not to, on your terms
- Family rejection and estrangement
- Trauma and PTSD from harassment or abuse
- Relationship stress and building chosen family
Affirming Care With Tara Franklin, LPC
Tara Franklin, LPC, works with adults: veterans (including combat-related PTSD), aging adults and seniors, LGBTQIA+ clients, bariatric and weight issues, and substance use recovery. She offers inclusive, affirming care and has 14 years of experience and works at a pace that feels right for you. Tara sees private-pay clients only and does not bill insurance; her rate is $100 for 45 minutes or $125 for 60 minutes.
If you want to use insurance, ask us about other clinicians on our team who may be a fit.
If Family Has Been Hard
Some clients still want a relationship with parents or siblings who struggle to accept them. Others need help grieving the family they hoped for. Therapy can hold both. Your counselor will not push you toward reconnecting or cutting ties; the choice stays with you, and the work is about feeling steadier whatever you decide.
Sessions are by secure video for clients located in Texas. Tara Franklin is private pay only; other clinicians may accept insurance.

Common Questions
- Is therapy here safe for transgender and nonbinary clients?
- Yes. Affirming care includes using your name and pronouns and respecting your identity throughout your work with us.
- Can my partner join me?
- Yes. Couples sessions are available, and we welcome same-sex and LGBTQ+ couples.
- Do I need to talk about my identity in therapy?
- Only if you want to. Some clients come in for grief or anxiety and identity is simply part of their life, not the focus.
