Straight Talk, No Judgment
Therapy for Black Men in Texas
A lot of men were taught to handle it, keep it moving and never let it show. Therapy here is a straight conversation with someone who listens and does not judge.

Handling It Has a Cost
Holding everything in works until it does not. It can come out as a short fuse with your kids, drinking more than you want to, shutting down with your partner, or not sleeping. Plenty of men tell us they did not know they were depressed until someone named it.
Talking to a therapist does not make you weak. It is a practical move, the same as seeing a doctor for a knee that will not heal.
Men who start therapy often say they wish they had done it years earlier. Not because someone fixed them, but because they finally had a place to think out loud.
What Men Come In For
There is no wrong reason to start. Some common ones:
- Anger that shows up faster than you want it to
- Stress from work, money or being the provider
- Grief, including losing friends too young
- Trauma from the past or from something recent
- A relationship that is falling apart or already ended
How We Work With You
Sessions are direct. Your clinician will ask what you want to change and help you build a plan to get there. You will not be pushed to share more than you are ready to, and you will leave with something useful to try that week.
Every counselor on our team can help with multicultural issues. You can talk about being pulled over, followed in a store or underestimated at work. We listen to how those experiences affect your daily life and ask what support would help.
No Waiting Room
Every session is by secure video, so nobody sees you walk into an office. Join from home, your truck or a private room at work, anywhere in Texas. Evening and weekend times are available.
The first session is mostly a conversation. Your clinician asks what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what a better month would look like. From there you set goals together, like fewer blowups at home, better sleep, or finally talking about a loss. Progress is checked along the way, so you can see whether it is working and adjust if it is not.

Common Questions
- Is this just going to be talking about my childhood?
- Only if that is useful to you. Many men focus on what is happening right now and what they want to be different.
- Will anyone know I am in therapy?
- Your sessions are confidential, and online sessions mean no one sees you come and go. There are a few legal limits, such as safety concerns, and your clinician will explain them up front.
- I am a veteran. Is there someone who focuses on that?
- Yes. Demetria Flowers works with veterans. Tell the office about the support you are looking for, or visit our Therapy for Veterans page to read about other options.
