For Married Couples in Texas
Marriage Counseling With Melisa Smith
You still care about each other, but the marriage feels heavy. Melisa Smith, LPC, MA, works only with couples and families, and she can help the two of you start talking again.

When a Marriage Starts to Feel Lonely
Most couples who call us are not on the edge of divorce. They are tired. Conversations turn into logistics, small comments land hard, and one of you has started to keep things to yourself because it feels easier than another argument.
Marriage counseling gives that strain a place to go. Instead of trading the same points at home, you sit down with someone whose whole job is to slow the conversation down so each of you can actually be heard.
Waiting usually makes it harder. Small resentments tend to stack up, and couples who reach out earlier often have more goodwill left to work with. You do not need a crisis to ask for help; feeling distant is reason enough.
How Melisa Works With Couples
Melisa has 8 years of counseling experience and a person-centered style. She listens for what each partner needs, not just what each partner is upset about. She also uses motivational interviewing, which helps couples get clear on the changes they want to make and why those changes matter to them.
She brings a background in ministry and more than 20 years of community and nonprofit work, so she is comfortable with couples whose faith and family values are part of the marriage. Faith is welcome in the room if you want it there, and never required.
What Couples Often Bring In
Every marriage is different, but these concerns come up often:
- Communication that turns into criticism or silence
- Disagreements about money, parenting or extended family
- Feeling disconnected after a new baby, a move or a loss
- Different expectations about roles at home
- Intimacy that has faded and is hard to talk about
Sessions From Home
All sessions happen by secure video, so you can join from the same couch or from two different places if work schedules are tight. Both partners need to be located in Texas during sessions. Evening and weekend times are available.

Common Questions
- Does my spouse have to come to every session?
- Marriage counseling works best with both of you, and Melisa sees couples and families rather than individuals. If one partner is unsure, start with a call and we can talk through how to invite them.
- We are not sure we want to stay married. Can we still come?
- Yes. Some couples come to repair the marriage and some come to get clear on what they both want. Melisa will not push you toward either answer.
- Will we be told who is right?
- No. Melisa does not take sides. Her focus is the pattern between you and what each of you can change in it.
